The NFL is bursting with young talent at the quarterback position, but in a recent segment on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, a surprising name popped up as the most exciting to watch. Instead of the seemingly obvious Patrick Mahomes, it was Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield who was given the designation as the most exciting quarterback to watch in the 2019 season (via 247 Sports).

While Nate Burleson and Peter Schrager each dished out some other interesting names, Kyle Brandt chose Mayfield in part because of his swagger and persona.

While the Browns had what should be considered a very successful season, Mayfield didn’t receive too many accolades despite his fantastic play. New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was awarded the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and other young quarterbacks – like Mahomes – had the spotlight squarely on them.

Still, Mayfield put up some incredible stats this year, breaking the rookie single-season passing touchdown record while finishing the season with 3,725 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a 93.7 passer rating.

Since his insertion into the Browns starting lineup, the team saw a renaissance of sorts, finishing the year 7-8-1, their best record since 2007’s 10-6 season. With the Browns now getting ready to compete in a suddenly weak AFC North, and with a new head coach that Mayfield loves, it makes sense why he’d be exciting to watch. Not only should the team have money to make moves in the offseason, but they’ll also be sporting one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2019.

For the first time in a long time, the Browns look to be on the road to success, and Mayfield is on the cusp of must-watch football.
