The 2019 NFL season was filled with disappointment and mistakes for Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns. After clearing his head during the offseason, Mayfield says he's regained his Kobe Bryant ‘Mamba Mentality' ahead of the 2020 campaign.

In a video conference on Friday, Mayfield shared that he's been able to get right mentally over the course of the offseason:

“Being myself, getting that alpha mentality back. 2020 has not been real great. Mamba mentality – RIP to Kobe (Bryant), but trying to get that and replicate something similar to what he had to lead these guys to where we want to go.”

Before the 2019 season began, the Browns were labeled as contenders in the AFC following the acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr. However, Cleveland would fail to live up to those expectations, going 6-10 during the regular season.

At the same time, Mayfield saw his numbers decline in his second season with the Browns. The former Heisman Trophy winner would throw for 3,827 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions last season. In his rookie season, he flashed brilliance as he totaled 3,725 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

One thing Mayfield was missing last year was the fearless mentality that helped him succeed as a rookie. The confident signal-caller admits that he wasn't assertive last year with the Browns. Nevertheless, he spent the entire offseason gaining back his confidence. Plus, he's turned heads in Cleveland's building with his impressive work ethic this offseason.

During his legendary career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bryant had a competitive nature that was unmatched by his counterparts. While Mayfield prepares to bounce back in 2020, he's attempting to channel his inner Mamba.
