Following the Cleveland Browns grabbing their second straight win on the season after topping the Cincinnati Bengals 35-20, rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield has caught much flak for his comments about former head coach Hue Jackson's decision to join the Bengals' coaching staff.

It is something that Mayfield continues to stand by his opinion, voicing that it is simply him stating his thoughts on the matter, which is a personal quality that feels he will not change about himself, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“People took it as me personally attacking Hue,” Mayfield said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “That’s not it. It’s the fact that I get to have my own opinion on how it transpired and he gets to do what he wants. That’s how it is. Although I’m an athlete, I’m not a cookie cutter quarterback. Never have been, never will be. I speak my mind, that’s how I am. I didn’t like the move and people don’t have to care. I’m not looking for anybody’s approval. I don’t regret any of it. It’s about this team and what we have and we have to stick together and play together.”

Throughout his football career, Mayfield has stuck to who he is as a player both on and off the field. He oftentimes has strong opinions and this is one of those instances where he feels strongly about his stance.

There is no strife against Jackson by any means, but in Mayfield's eyes, it was a decision by Jackson that he didn't agree with, especially the fact that he is joining a division rival that the Browns face twice a year.

However, what should be taken into account is that Jackson has a connection to the Bengals having previously coached there, while having strong connections to head coach Marvin Lewis that made it a comfort move for him to get back into the league.

Ultimately, this is something that Mayfield desires to move on from now that the game has passed. Things should shift onto the Browns' Week 13 action on the road against the red-hot Houston Texans.
