With the NFL preseason finally coming to a close, there are not many household names set to take part in this week's action. Fortunately, the Cleveland Browns are happy to oblige with quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Head coach Hue Jackson said that the starters will not play Thursday versus the Detroit Lions. As a result, Mayfield will get the start, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Baker Mayfield will start vs. the Lions, and he better savor the moment, because he might not have that feeling again for awhile.

Jackson acknowledged that Mayfield could see the bulk of the playing time.

“I am not playing the starters in this game,” Jackson said. “You guys have been looking for that. They will not play. Specific guys will play and play quite a bit, and then we will let some other guys finish the game.”

It certainly makes sense for Cleveland to give Mayfield as much playing time as possible. Jackson has been adamant about quarterback Tyrod Taylor's status as the starter going into the 2018 NFL season. It is clear that he has not swayed from that decision despite Mayfield's stellar performance in the preseason.

Aside from his last outing versus the Philadelphia Eagles, Mayfield has looked every bit the part of a No. 1 overall pick thus far. He has completed 26-of-45 passes for 363 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while tacking on 32 rushing yards through the first three games. Mayfield now looks to end the preseason on a high note in what could be the most playing time he gets all year.
