Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson remains adamant that rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield will continue to be kept away from getting any reps with the first-team during the training camp, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“No, no, no, no, no,” he said. “Everybody's asked me that a ton of times. Why? I'm going to tell you the reason why. We are learning a new system, and I think Tyrod (Taylor) needs every rep that he can get with the ones.

This means that Jackson has not changed his mind about the pecking order of his quarterbacks. Tyrod Taylor is still the projected starter of the Browns, with Mayfield behind him on the depth chart at No. 2 and veteran Drew Stanton at No. 3. Cleveland also has a fourth quarterback in rookie Brogan Roback. There’s also the possibility that Stanton would be named as Taylor’s main backup, leaving Mayfield with enough motivation to do well in the Browns’ preseason games and practices.

Mayfield had a solid pro debut during a 20-10 road win over the New York Giants back in Week 1 of the preseason. Against the Giants, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft completed 11 of 20 passes for 212 passing yards and two touchdowns against zero interceptions. In the next game, Mayfield went 7-of-13 for 75 passing yards in a 19-17 home loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Hue Jackson has never wavered on his stance that Taylor is the Browns’ starter, though, not a few expect that Mayfield will cop the job at some point next season.
