The Cleveland Browns will be searching for a long-term head coach this coming offseason after firing Hue Jackson in the middle of the year. Some believe that the team could stick with interim head coach Gregg Williams, while others think they will look at other options. Mike McCarthy's name has come up quite a bit since he was fired by the Green Bay Packers.

According to a report from Steve Wyche of the NFL Network, however, the Browns are not going to try to hire McCarthy.

McCarthy would have been a very intriguing coaching candidate for the Browns. He has been very successful as a head coach, leading the Packers to the playoffs in nine out of his 13 seasons with the team. In addition to that number, he won a Super Bowl as well.

There are going to be quite a few teams interested in McCarthy even if the Browns are not. The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers figure to be two of those teams.

Cleveland could look into other options like Bruce Arians and Josh McDaniels. Finding an offensive minded coach to work with Baker Mayfield should be a priority. McCarthy is known as an offensive coach, but it appears that the Browns simply do not have much interest in hiring him at this point in time.

It will be interesting to see what John Dorsey and the Browns decide to do this offseason. They cannot afford to miss on another coaching hire.

Expect to hear more rumblings and rumors in the near future about who the Browns could consider. Williams has found some success since taking over the head coaching duties in Cleveland, which would certainly give him a chance to keep the job.
