Former NFL head coach Jim Caldwell is reportedly being mentioned as a possible head coaching candidate with the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.

Caldwell currently serves as a consultant for the returning XFL, but his most notable coaching ventures came as the former head coach of both the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions.

He led the Colts to a Super Bowl during his three seasons in Indy, and after that, managed to guide the Lions to two playoff appearances in four seasons before being fired.

Now, it appears that Caldwell may be garnering significant interest in the coaching carousel, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

The Jets chose to fire head coach Todd Bowles on Sunday, while the Browns let go of former head coach Hue Jackson earlier in the season before turning the position over to interim coach Gregg Williams.

Teams value experience in the NFL, and Caldwell undoubtedly has a lot of that on his resume. He spent many seasons as a quarterbacks coach with various franchises, and he's someone that does have familiarity with all the things that along with being a head coach at the professional level.

As Rapoport noted, Caldwell has already had discussed with the Green Bay Packers, which is another team with an opening at this stage.

With a career head coaching record of 62-50 and four playoff appearances to his credit, teams could probably do much worse than Caldwell when it comes to hiring a new coach.
