The Dallas Cowboys will pay Amari Cooper. They can't afford to lose him. Not only did he turn around the Cowboys' offense to make the playoffs and Pro-Bowl, but the team also traded a first-round selection to get him.
The 25-year-old is a vital cog to their offense, and deserving of whatever he gets paid — you can read more on that here. Cooper's impact on Prescott, winning, and himself with the Cowboys is profound.
The way things are going, it looks like the Cowboys may have to rent a Brinks Trunk.
In the wake of Michael Thomas' extension with the New Orleans Saints, worth $100 million over five years, Cooper's price tag just went up. It's the way the NFL works; the top contract-holder is often on top of the mountain for a few months until another bests it. Cooper knows that, as he talked about Thomas' contract with The Athletic‘s Jon Machota:
“It was a big contract. Good for him.”
When asked if it will impact his looming extension, he said:
“I don’t know if it will. Hopefully.”
Cooper has all the leverage in contract talks, considering circumstances. But, he stills need to reaffirm he can be the NFL elite receiver he flashed in his first season with the Cowboys. He caught 35 passes for 896 yards and seven touchdowns in just 11 games in Dallas. However, his contract negotiations have been overlooked amid Dak Prescott's and Ezekiel Elliott.
While Elliott is in Mexico, skipping camp, Prescott and Cooper are perfecting their connection with the Cowboys.
