Cam Newton was released by the New England Patriots on Tuesday and there are already rumblings that the Dallas Cowboys could be interested in signing the veteran QB.
Members of the media, specifically Skip Bayless, are absolutely loving the idea of the Cowboys giving Newton a shot.
Cam Newton was made to be a Dallas Cowboy. It is The Greatest Show on Earth and Cam is a great showman. He is the perfect fit right here, right now for my Cowboys. @undisputed. 9:30 AM-Noon ET. FS1. https://t.co/kh6RZZvGJl

However, he also discussed that Newton is too good to be a backup. Is he really trying to say he could start over Dak Prescott?
"Cam Newton is too good to be a backup. He is overqualified. He is a force of nature, he takes over your whole franchise. He can lift your whole franchise."

The Cowboys did just release two quarterbacks, with the only other gun-slinger on the roster besides Prescott being Cooper Rush. Newton is clearly more qualified than him, but another Cowboys writer pointed out a very important point they should be considering when it comes to Newton:
I would love for the Cowboys to sign Cam Newton as Dak Prescott’s primary backup. I think Cam would be a great teammate. But I would do not anything to put Prescott in jeopardy. Cam is not vaccinated. Even the slight chance of him causing Prescott to miss games is a bridge to far

A very good point. After all, he was cut by the Patriots for several reasons and one of them was because he wasn't vaccinated. Prescott has already dealt with injuries this summer, it would be even worse if the QB ultimately caught the virus too.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will weigh out the pros and cons of signing Cam Newton, but there are clearly supporters of the idea within the media and others who aren't exactly fond. It will be interesting to see if the franchise actually makes a move for him.
