The Dallas Cowboys continue to work toward getting a new contract in place for Dak Prescott, but it doesn't appear that a resolution is in sight. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Prescott and Dallas haven't gotten any closer to a contract extension this offseason.

The Cowboys hoped to get a new deal with Prescott prior to the beginning of free agency. However, after talks stalled, Dallas was forced to place their franchise tag on Prescott to prevent him from speaking to other teams.

Even though they used their tag on Prescott, the Cowboys are still making it a priority to sign Prescott long-term. At the same time, Prescott is content with waiting for a contract that he desires.

While Prescott hasn't signed his franchise tag, he has all of the leverage in contract talks with the Cowboys. Also, the fact that Dallas waited too long to complete a deal with Prescott has raised his asking price exponentially.

Earlier this week, the NFL announced a virtual offseason program amid the coronavirus pandemic. With that in mind, Prescott doesn't intend to take part in the program unless he has a new deal in place. After all, the virtual offseason program is voluntary, meaning that players aren't required to participate.

Seeing that Jared Goff and Carson Wentz were given massive contracts last offseason, Prescott wants a new deal for himself as well. Again, the longer that the Cowboys take to finalize a contract with Prescott, the more likely his price is going to increase.
