The fate of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been one of the biggest storylines of the offseason. After spending all four seasons of his rookie contract as the Cowboys starting QB, the former Mississippi State product was in line for a big contract this offseason.

Whether or not that contract was with Dallas was the question. The Cowboys also have the opportunity to franchise tag their star quarterback, keeping him with the team for one more season as they discuss a long-term deal.

However, with the NFL franchise tag deadline on Thursday, it appears that the Cowboys have offered Prescott a new deal in the hopes of kick-starting talks on a multi-year deal, per ESPN's Todd Archer.

With Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger being the top two highest-paid quarterbacks in terms of 2019 earnings with $35 million and $34 million respectively, Prescott's new contract will likely be towards the top of payment in regards to the other players at his position.

This is especially likely considering Prescott's side reportedly declined a contract offer for a $33 million per season deal.

On the field, Prescott enjoyed a career year in 2019. The 26-year-old QB completed 65.1 percent of his passes for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns (both career highs) while throwing 11 interceptions. Prescott also ran for 277 yards and three additional touchdowns on the ground.
