Dallas Cowboys star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence just wrapped the final year of his rookie deal that will place him on the open market this upcoming NFL offseason.
Despite that being the case, Lawrence has voiced little concern about his current contract situation with the Cowboys, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

The 25-year-old is coming off the heels of a breakout year posting a career-high 14.5 sacks that earned him his first Pro Bowl selection and an All-Pro Second Team nod. He was tied for second in the league in sacks, and his 79 total pressures were the third-most in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. He is also just the third player in franchise history to record at least 14.0 sacks in a single season joining DeMarcus Ware and Jim Jeffcoat.
Lawrence's stellar performance has put in front of him the opportunity to receive a huge payday on the open market that far exceeds his four-year, $5.5 million rookie deal. However, the Cowboys have the option of using the franchise tag on him before he becomes a free agent. This will both allow them to keep him under contract for at least another season while extending the window to negotiate a long-term deal through the deadline on July 16 at 4 p.m. ET.
The Cowboys have expressed much interest in bringing him back on another deal. He has become the anchor of their defensive line as the primary pass rusher accounting for a sizeable bulk of their 38 total sacks this past season. This process could become affected by what type of deals that other top defensive players in the league work out such as Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowl defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Houston Texans defensive end/outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney.
