DeMarcus Lawrence is sending a not-so-subtle message to the Dallas Cowboys with his latest social media post.
CBS Sports is reporting that he's hoping to replicate his success in 2017 — when he racked up 14.5 sacks — even after he was hit with a franchise tag in 2018. Now, the franchise tag netted him a nice payday — $17.1 million, to be precise — but put him at a great deal of risk with the club, who wanted him to prove his mettle and replicate his 2017 success.
So, Lawrence took to social media to send a very clear message to the Powers That Be, who seem to be clocking his every move.

“A second franchise tag would pay the former second-round pick $20.5 million for 2019, but it'd be wholly irrelevant because Lawrence won't sign it. The clock is ticking on getting the deal done, but if it isn't by March 5, expect the Cowboys to use the tag as a holding pattern that will give them until July 15 to get the deal finalized. Under no circumstances are they looking to allow Lawrence to hit the free agency market, and they'll buy themselves more time if they need to.”
Now, according to the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, there are no issues between Lawrence and the team — and Jones even went so far as to call the relationship “outstanding.”
However, we all know that can and will change if the situation with his contract doesn't go the right way, and the Cowboys will do whatever it takes to make things work.
