The upcoming NFL Draft class boasts a myriad of young talent, with some of them holding franchise-altering potential. In particular, there are a number of quality quarterbacks that will be available at the top of the draft, and for Dallas Cowboys fans, this might just be something to get excited about.

The 2-7 Cowboys are quickly emerging as a team that's going to be drafting early in 2021. However, with Dallas set on Dak Prescott as their QB of the future, trading away their possible high pick to an opposing team looking to bring in a young quality quarterback might prove to be a beneficial move.

Jon Machota and Dane Brugler of The Athletic discuss the likely scenarios heading into the draft, and how the Cowboys might just emerge as big winners should they look to trade their possible high pick:

“I think Trevor Lawrence will go No. 1, most likely to the Jets. They have a pretty firm grasp on that. But this quarterback class is shaping up to be a pretty interesting group. If you’re a Cowboys fan, that’s good news because it keeps open the possibility of a possible trade-back scenario, getting more picks and a chance to get better even quicker with more draft capital.”

They then went on to detail which quarterbacks they see going early in the draft:

“I would be surprised (if any other quarterback went before Lawrence or Fields), just because of what they have done and shown. But I’m also a big Zach Wilson fan. There’s plenty of chatter around the league talking about Wilson maybe being the second quarterback drafted. So I think it’s possible that there won’t be a consensus. Lawrence is viewed as the favorite, and then I don’t think there will necessarily be consensus after that. Most will like Fields, but some could certainly lean towards Wilson and Trey Lance, even though they’re much tougher evaluations.”

At this point we can think of more than a few teams that could be looking to draft their new cornerstone QB. This could be a good thing for the Cowboys, who might just luck out come draft night.
