The draft came and went, and Chris Harris Jr. is still a member of the Denver Broncos. Reports from over the weekend made it seem like a Harris trade was imminent, but that turned out not to be the case.

Speaking after the draft, Broncos general manager John Elway denied the team had any conversations about the cornerback during the draft.

That doesn't mean the two sides have made any progress, as they haven't had any discussions about a new contract yet, per James Palmer of NFL Network. Elway had said he would reach out to Harris' agent after the draft, but that apparently hasn't happened yet. It's only been a couple of days so there's still time, but it seems like a trade is still a real possibility.

Palmer writes that there”are still teams interested in him, but that doesn't necessarily mean he gets moved either.” Harris recently demanded a new contract or a trade, and he's reportedly seeking $15 million annually on a new deal.

The Broncos have so far balked at his asking price, leading to a stalemate. Harris has remained away from the team's offseason program while we await a resolution.

Harris is one of the longest-tenured players on the team, and one of the few remaining pieces from the Broncos' legendary defense that won them a Super Bowl. An undrafted free agent back in 2011, Harris has made the Pro Bowl four out of the last five seasons.

He was reportedly irked that the Broncos went out and signed Kareem Jackson to a three-year, $33 million deal this offseason before taking care of him. Harris is significantly more accomplished than Jackson is, and he wants to be paid accordingly.

We should know a lot more soon, and just because he wasn't shipped out during the draft doesn't mean he won't be on a new team in 2019.
