The Denver Broncos opened up their training camp earlier than most NFL teams, and unfortunately were hit with the injury bug during one of their first practices. Thursday, Broncos linebacker Todd Davis was injured and needed to be carted off after suffering an apparent leg injury.
According to multiple reports from the practice (via Pro Football Talk), Davis initially limped off of the cart while making his way into the locker room, but there was no word on exactly how severe the injury is. However, thanks to an update from James Palmer of NFL Media, the Broncos have reported that Davis injured his calf.
As of now, Davis is set to have an MRI on the calf, but the initial thought is that he avoided a serious injury. Thankfully, the Broncos seemingly avoided a major injury so early in training camp, and with Davis looking to be a big part of the Broncos defense in the upcoming season, the hope is that he’ll be able to make it back onto the field with no long-term issues quickly.
UPDATE: At 7:23 p.m., Tom Pelissero of NFL Network offered this update on Todd Davis:

With Denver looking to make the push back into the playoffs, they’ll need as much help as possible, so it’s likely that Davis will be resting until he’s able to return.
Originally going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, Davis initially signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints before being waiving him. The Broncos claimed Davis off of waivers, and he’s been a part of the team ever since. Last year, Davis registered career highs in tackles (114), interceptions (1), pass deflections (7), and was a big part of the Broncos defense.
