Denver Broncos cornerback De'Vante Bausby was carted off of the field of Dignity Health Sports Park in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He collided with teammate Alexander Johnson while defending a 3-yard Austin Ekeler rush.
Bausby took a helmet-to-helmet hit with Johnson when the two tried to tackle Ekeler.
Bausby was visited and assisted by trainers before ultimately being strapped down and carted off the field. Per the Broncos' official website, he was transported to the hospital for further examination. The cornerback suffered a neck injury but has movement in all extremities, as Executive Vice President of Public and Community Relations Patrick Smyth tweeted.
Bausby took over a starting role in the Broncos secondary last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, with Bausby out, Yiadom will return to his prominent role in the Denver defense.
The Broncos signed Bausby in the offseason after his successful stint with the San Antonio Commanders in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football league. For the season, he has 11 combined tackles and three pass deflections. According to Pro Football Reference, he allowed a 72.0 passer rating in coverage before suffering the injury.
Before the AAF, Bausby bounced around the league, spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs (twice), Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite Bausby's injury, the Broncos are up big on the Chargers. At half time, Denver is up 17-0. The team is seeking their first win of the season; if they don't get it, there may be some changes coming to Colorado.
