For the past few years, the Denver Broncos have been plagued with one question mark after another under center. Fortunately, that time has now passed thanks to the signing of quarterback Case Keenum.
Keenum brings a certain sense of stability to Denver's offense. According to Arnie Stapleton of the Associated Press, the effect has already been felt by wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders:
“I appreciate it, for sure,” Sanders said. “This is the first time in two or three years that I'm not standing up here talking about a quarterback debate. I remember when I got out here, I went out to the team store and I saw Case Keenum jerseys. I was like, ‘Thank God, I don't have to deal with that again.'
It goes without saying that there is plenty of truth to Sanders' comments. Ever since the departure of Peyton Manning, the Bronco's have struggled to fill the void left on offense. This is the reason why they have largely fallen out of playoff contention over the last few years.
Denver tried to alleviate the pressure under center with a trio of quarterbacks last season. However, it became evident that neither Trevor Siemian or Brock Osweiler was up to the task. Meanwhile, Paxton Lynch has shown that he is still years away from being considered as a potential franchise quarterback.
Fortunately, their turmoil has seemingly ended with Keenum. The veteran had struggled to make his bones as a legitimate starter up until his impressive run last season. That said, it is clear that the championship expectations have begun to rise in Denver.
