The Denver Broncos are now expected to trade veteran wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders by the trade deadline.

As the deadline nears on Oct. 29, the Broncos are now not only fielding calls for their Pro Bowl wide receiver — they're expected to trade him, as indicated by a new report from local Denver media outlet 9 News.

“Broncos general manager John Elway is expected to trade star receiver Emmanuel Sanders by the NFL trading deadline next Tuesday, sources told 9NEWS.

9NEWS reported about the possibility of Sanders and cornerback Chris Harris Jr. going on the trading block – with Sanders the more likely of the two – Thursday night following the Broncos’ embarrassing 30-6 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Sanders has been decently productive in his return from a serious Achilles injury suffered last season. The 32-year-old veteran receiver has posted 30 receptions for 367 yards and two touchdowns this season. However, the Broncos are 2-5 and it's clear that they're missing the playoffs following their 30-6 loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7.

The veteran receiver is in the last year of his deal and there's really no reason for the Broncos to retain him. Furthermore, second-year receiver Courtland Sutton has overtaken Sanders as the team's lead target.

This new report is obviously is a contrast to general manager John Elway's previous statement that the Broncos didn't have anyone on the trade block. That statement was made just prior to their Week 6 game against the Tennessee Titans.

“You guys bring all those names up. I have not brought any names up,” Elway said on Oct. 11 via the Associated Press. “We’re trying to win football games,” Elway said. “So, no one from our side is on the trading block. We’re going to try to continue to win football games.”

With Denver looking at their fourth consecutive non-playoff season, that tune has obviously changed.
