The Denver Broncos are coming off a disappointing 2017 campaign that saw them finish with one of worst records in the league while missing the playoffs for the second straight campaign. John Elway is determined to get it fixed.
One of their biggest needs is a viable option under center to lead the charge in turning around the franchise's fortunes. Denver currently possesses the 5th overall pick in this year's draft, and they could use it to bring in a promising quarterback.
Although that may be the case, Elway said the team won't necessarily select a quarterback at the spot, and they'll consider just taking the most talented player on the board with the selection, according to Mike Klis of KUSA.

The Broncos are in a prime position with a plethora of options available to them to finally resolve their quarterback dilemma. Their fifth overall selection could be used to pick from the likes of USC's Sam Darnold, UCLA's Josh Rosen, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, and Wyoming's Josh Allen. If they feel they can still land their most desired player a little lower in the first round, they may acquire several more picks by moving back.
Denver could also explore free agency or the trade market to acquire a proven veteran quarterback, such as Pro Bowlers Alex Smith and Kirk Cousins. Signing one those guys would obviously change the equation for Denver come draft day.
There are several directions that the Broncos could head with their first round pick as well as those following it, and the front office is well aware of the options that will available to the team.
