The Denver Broncos have a busy offseason ahead of them if they hope to bounce back in the 2020 NFL season. It seems they will have some major voids to fill in the backfield.

According to Mike Klis of KUSA, the Broncos will be parting ways with running backs Devontae Booker and Theo Riddick in free agency:

Devontae Booker to become FA where he will draw 2nd-wave interest from teams. 5.3 y/c last two yrs. Played 61 of 64 games.

Also, Theo Riddick’s shoulder healed and medically cleared. He is also moving on to FA where he will have options.

The move to not bring back either running back hardly comes as a surprise. Denver has relied on the one-two punch of Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman over the last two seasons and it appears they are planning to keep it that way.

Booker had shown plenty of promise early on as a rookie and seemed poised to etch out an integral role for himself in the future. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition as his production dwindled in the following years. He ultimately became an afterthought in the Broncos backfield after finishing the 2019 NFL season with just two carries for nine yards and six passes for 57 yards.

Meanwhile, Riddick endured a lost year in Denver after he was sidelined for the entire 2019 campaign with a shoulder injury. Regardless, he should still garner some interest on the market given his skill set as an elite pass catcher out of the backfield. It is safe to say that the year off has given him ample time to make a full recovery as well.
