Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak is reportedly interested in the Denver Broncos' head-coaching job, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Munchak spent Friday with the Broncos, so there is interest on both sides.
The match seems to make plenty of sense. Munchak's daughter and her family all live in Denver, and Munchak and Broncos president of football operations John Elway have shared an agent in the past.
Munchak turned down a head-coaching position last year and seems very devoted to the Steelers, having been a member of the coaching staff since 2014. That demonstrates just how intrigued he is by the Broncos job.
However, Munchak is not the only subject in which Denver has interest. The Broncos will also be interviewing New England Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Monday.
Munchak does have some head-coaching experience, as he coached the Tennessee Titans for three years from 2011 through 2013. During that time, Munchak went 22-26, leading the Titans to one winning season in 2011 when the team won nine games on his watch.
Prior to taking the job as Tennessee's head coach, Munchak had been in the organization ever since it was the Houston Oilers, first joining the coaching staff as an offensive assistant and quality control coach in 1994 before being named the offensive line coach in 1997, a position he held all the way through 2010 before being promoted to head coach.
The 58-year-old also had an illustrious NFL playing career with the Oilers from 1982 through 1993, making nine Pro Bowl appearances and earning four First-Team All-Pro selections.
