Jeff Okudah hasn't had the rookie season he envisioned having and it appears the Detroit Lions won't get him back until the 2021 season.
According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Okudah is being shut down for the rest of the 2020 season due to plans of him undergoing surgery next Tuesday.
This is true. The No. 3 pick will have surgery Tuesday, source confirmed, in a core muscle procedure. He’ll be full strength for the offseason program with a new coach and GM. https://t.co/fsLVi1TUXB

Okudah has missed the past two games for the Lions due to a shoulder injury and was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. However, he will be undergoing groin surgery, which will cause him to miss the final month of the regular season.

Still, Okudah is a massive loss for a secondary that isn't exactly loaded with talent. Nevertheless, the Lions will be sans Okudah on Sunday against Davante Adams and in the team's other three remaining contests.
Prior to his array of injuries, Okudah notched 47 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception. On the other hand, he has mightily struggled in coverage in his rookie season, allowing a 77.4 completion percentage and 118 passer rating when targeted for the Lions.
When Detroit took Okudah with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, they were hoping to get the shutdown cornerback we saw at Ohio State. On the contrary, it's evident that he's going to go through some growing pains before he hopefully reaches his potential.
Following his surgery next week, Okudah will hope to have a much better sophomore campaign with a new coaching staff in place in Detroit.
