The kid simply has his ways. He's so stuck in his ways it's almost laughably predictable these days.

Somebody hits. He blasts back. Tuesday brought the latest example of “he” slapping back (Odell Beckham Jr.).

The New York Giants stellar wideout posted a family-related Instagram post that most are interpreting as a direct response to the latest words Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis spouted out at the young LSU product who's run into a bit of trouble this offseason.

It started when the Ravens all-time leader on defense and two-time Super Bowl champ put forth a rant of sorts with Colin Cowherd on FS1. One of the most ferocious linebackers in American football history felt Beckham Jr. was “crying out for help.”

“Where there's no God, there's chaos,” Lewis said. “Odell has removed God from his life. This is a kid that grew up under the covenant of who God really is and everything that he's doing, he's crying out for help. We have a lot of people reporting about him, but it's always been the duty of elders to go back to help them, so that's why I raised my hand and I told him, ‘I'm here. Whatever you need.'”

“I don't care about religion, I'm talking about a foundation,” Lewis said. “When your foundation is disturbed, when everything you're doing is the opposite of what got you to this place, then you're making your own life hard.”

Due to the substance of Lewis's rant, OBJ's family and god-related video feels like a direct response.

This is OBJ. This is what he does.

He's not the only one, but so many young athletes today are quick to turn to social media in order to take care of their personal brand while “hitting back” at any form of criticism. It's silly. It's foolish. It simply screams attention-seeking behavior.

What OBJ Should Have Done:

If the words by Lewis didn't bother Beckham, he would ignore it and go about his business. By posting this specific video in such a cryptic fashion immediately after Lewis' crazy rant only hurts Beckham himself. In the eyes of Beckham Jr., it shouldn't matter was Lewis says and whether or not his words hold any real meaning.

Simply brush it off your shoulders and let it die a quick death.

Now, thanks to the OBJ video (in which, think about it, he actually dug up and put on Instagram or directed somebody to do so for him), the words remain in headlines worldwide while building momentum—providing more credence to the initial and very strange rant.

Let it go. Nobody will take Ray Lewis seriously if Odell Beckham Jr. simply ignores it.
