The Green Bay Packers have no intentions of risking Aaron Rodgers to injury by sending him to the field in the team’s third game of the preseason this Friday against the Oakland Raiders.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Packers will sit Rodgers out in the Raiders game together with other key starters, a trend that may very well continue until the end of the preseason.
The third game of the preseason is always considered as the de facto final exhibition contest for most of NFL teams’ starters, which, in other words, mean that Rodgers will unlikely to take snaps next week against the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.

Hundley is considered to be the in the lead for the No. 2 quarterback spot behind Rodgers, but Kizer has had his moments in the preseason to make it a competition. Kizer, who was traded to Green Bay by the Cleveland Browns last March, went 7-of-12 for 149 passing yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 51-24 win at home over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Hundley, on the other hand, had 77 passing yards on 7-of-12 completions in the same game. Meanwhile, Tim Boyle will continue to prove his case for inclusion on the Packers’ final 53-man roster.
Aaron Rodgers missed nine games last season because of a collarbone injury, which greatly diminished the team’s chances of making the playoffs. With him back in 100 percent form, expect the Packers to make loud noises in the league again.
