Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that he would like to take the pressure off of quarterback Aaron Rodgers on offense. This could mean a bigger workload for running back Aaron Jones moving forward.

Jones has been the budding workhorse in Green Bay for the last two seasons. According to Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire, general manager Brian Gutekunst hopes to see him get his fair share of touches in the 2019 NFL season.

Brian Gutekunst called Aaron Jones a “difference maker” and said he wants him on the field as much as possible.

Gutekunst's comments are certainly understandable. The Packers have relied heavily on Rodgers' arm to be the difference on offense. However, perhaps the time has come for a more balanced attack in Green Bay.

Jones was one of the more efficient running backs in the league last season. He finished the 2018 campaign with 728 yards and eight touchdowns while leading the league in yards per carry (5.5). Although he had to deal with his fair share of struggles with suspensions and injuries last year, he has still proven more than capable of becoming Green Bay's bell-cow back.

LaFleur's ties to Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay suggests that he could be looking for a more balanced approach. The highest-scoring offenses in the league are ones capable of beating teams on the ground and through the air. They already boast arguably the most talented passer in the NFL. The time has come for Jones to show why touches must be allocated to the run game.
