Ted Thompson is no longer the GM of the Green Bay Packers, so the organization decided to honor him. The Packers inducted their former longtime front office head into the team's Hall of Fame on Saturday.
It's a pretty big deal, as Thompson is only the second general manager to make it into the hall following Ron Wolf. Thompson was humble upon his induction, deflecting praise.
“You look at all the great players who’ve come through here, they are idols,” Thompson said in a video that was part of the festivities, via Richard Ryman of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I’m not one of those people. I’m just a scout.”
Others did more of the flattering for him. “What to me stands out is the consistency,” Packers team president Mark Murphy said. “It is hard to win one year in the NFL. Everything is designed to make it that way.”
“You couldn't ask for a more ethical person. He was a tireless worker. It was never about him. It was about what was best for the Packers organization,” Murphy continued.
When he got up to the stage, Thompson spoke a little bit more.

Thompson spent 13 years as the team's general manager before more or less being forced out at the end of the 2017 season. The team gave Brian Gutekunst the title of general manager, and Murphy has taken on a more active role in the team's management.
There's been a lot of change in Green Bay recently, with the team also firing longtime coach Mike McCarthy.
It'll be interesting to see how one of the league's typically most stable franchises responds to all the disruption.
