Don't expect to see J.J. Watt on the field this season (although it's certainly possible, knowing him).

A couple days after going onto injured reserve after re-injuring his back, the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Watt likely won't return this season. The Texans believe 2017 is a more realistic return date.

Watt had surgery on a herniated disc in his back in the offseason, and he defied projections by returning for Week 1. According to Texans head coach Bill O'Brien, Watt passed all of the necessary tests before taking the field.

However, Watt re-injured his back last week during Houston's blowout loss to the New England Patriots. This coming week's game will be the first missed by Watt in his six-year NFL career.

Rapoport added that the Texans don't have any long-term concerns regarding Watt's health beyond this season. That's a relief, considering he's won three Defensive Player of the Year awards, including each of the last two.

Watt is also an active member of the Houston community, captivating a fan base not only with his play, but with his actions off of the field.
