The Houston Texans made a big splash last offseason when they signed Aaron Colvin. They poached him away from the division-rival Jaguars, and gave him a four-year, $34 million deal with $18 million guaranteed to do so.

He was moved from the slot to the outside in Houston, and it's safe to say the first season of the experiment was a disaster.

An ankle injury limited Colvin to only ten games, and he started just two of those. By the time the playoffs rolled around, he was a healthy scratch. Colvin still has a lot of guaranteed money for 2019, so he'll be on the roster.

He needs to prove himself this offseason though if he wants any playing time, and so far head coach Bill O'Brien has liked what he's seen.

“He's had a good offseason,” O'Brien said of Colvin, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “He's been here every day, he's worked hard. I think he's definitely in that group of players that have improved.”

“There's definitely been improvement because he's been out there every day. He's been healthy, he's been working. He's a hard worker. He's definitely takes a good professional approach to every day.”

For Colvin's part, he's looking to put last year behind him and move on.

“I'm pretty disappointed with how it went on the field, but it was a great year for me because I experienced a lot of things I never experienced before,” Colvin explained. “I grew a lot as a person and I'm thankful. I always come back strong.”

Hopefully Colvin will have a bounce-back year, but it won't be guaranteed.

The signing last offseason raised a lot of eyebrows as many observers thought the Texans paid too much, and so far it looks like they were right.
