While trade rumors run rampant, Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney isn't yet on a new team. Clowney is on the franchise tag, but he hasn't signed it, meaning the Texans can't fine him to come to training camp, nor can they trade him without his permission. If he doesn't like the trade, he simply won't sign, essentially meaning he has a no-trade clause.

After the Texans' 34-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night, head coach (and de facto general manager) Bill O'Brien was asked about the situation with the trade.

I reported on the situation. O'Brien said this:

“Until he decides to come in and sign the tender, really the ball’s in his court relative to playing for the Texans and all those things, just like it’s been since the beginning of training camp.  He’s a franchise player and so until he comes and signs the tender, really there’s nothing really else to talk about,” said O'Brien.

O'Brien doesn't yet know when Clowney will report to training camp if at all.

Said O'Brien: “I don’t really have any indication.  I think I spoke to him a few times since the end of our season.  All the conversations have been good conversations.  Very professional conversations but I don’t have any idea of any specific date of when he will decide that he wants to be here.”

O'Brien's approach to the situation is a continuation of what we've known all summer; nobody knows if Clowney will be back as a Texan. However, with trade rumors picking up, he may not be one again.
