The Houston Texans suffered a heartbreaking loss in their season opener on Monday night, falling to the New Orleans Saints by a score of 30-28 courtesy of a last-second 58-yard field goal by Wil Lutz.

Afterward, Texans head coach Bill O'Brien praised the Saints and took a positive approach:

“Give credit to the Saints,” O’Brien told reporters, per Mark Lane of Texans Wire. “They have a great team. But we have a good football team. I think you can see that.”

O'Brien also doesn't think this one loss will have any lasting effects on Houston:

“We just need to clean some things up,” said O’Brien. “One game will not define a sixteen game season. We need to get back to work.”

Clean some things up, indeed.

The Texans once again did a poor job protecting Deshaun Watson, as Watson was sacked six times, which was more than any other quarterback in the NFL in Week 1.

Last year, Watson was sacked 62 times, which led the league.

Houston tried to address that problem late last month by acquiring left tackle Laremy Tunsil in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, but the move obviously did not pay dividends on Monday evening, as the Saints lived in the Texans' backfield. Watson still had a terrific game and nearly won it for Houston late, but he took a beating.

The Texans are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they won 11 games and captured the AFC South title. With Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck retiring, the division is once again wide open for the taking for the club.

Houston will play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend.
