The Houston Texans were favored to beat the Carolina Panthers at home on Sunday. After four quarters of play, the scoreboard read the opposite: Carolina 16, Houston 10.
In an ugly game where the coaching didn't do Houston any favors, their quarterback, Deshaun Watson, also struggled. For the day, he finished with 160 yards on 21 for 33 throwing, no touchdowns (upset for a 1-yard rush) and no interceptions; good for a 75.3 passer rating. Those stats get a bump-up from a garbage-time drive.
Short of saying, Houston and Watson disappointed on Sunday.
“It's very frustrating,” Watson said after the game. “Any loss is very frustrating, but especially when he had the opportunities. The defense created turnovers. We didn't capatilize on most of them. We had a drive where I didn't remind Duke [Johnson] to scan and pick up the blitz and I held the ball onto too long and I fumbled the ball too long. Things like that.”
The Texans defense created three turnovers. Watson was only able to capitalize off of one after J.J. Watt gave the offense the ball at the 18-yard line off of a strip-sack. In the end, they performed the most costly turnover; one where Watson fumbled off of a missed blitz with four minutes left.
Ultimately, there is nothing Houston can do about the result, upset grow upon it and get ready for next Sunday.
“We can't look ahead, we can't look in the back, we got to take care of that moment,” Watson continued. “We didn't do that today, I didn't do that today. I got to make sure the rest of the season we got to grow and learn from this loss and move on and get ready for the Falcons. “
The Texans will take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5.
