The Houston Texans, along with the New York Jets, are scouring the trade market for help at running back, the Houston Chronicle‘s Aaron Wilson reports. This news comes as little surprise in the wake of Pro Bowl running back Lamar Miller tearing his ACL last week.

Though the Texans enlisted the help of Duke Johnson via trade, the team's depth chart behind him is now rather shallow.

Undrafted free agents Karan Higdon and Damarea Crockett have shown signs of promise, but have no regular-season touches to their names. Buddy Howell and Taiwan Jones may stick around in a special-teams capacity. The team released Josh Ferguson earlier on Friday.

After placing Miller on injured reserve, head coach Bill O'Brien noted that his team would “see what happens” with the situation:

“I think, as you look at our running back situation right now, we have a good situation. I think adding Duke Johnson was a good move. He's been good in the meeting room, in practice, a very professional attitude. Taiwan Jones, that addition in the offseason was a good one. Buddy Howell has been a really steady guy for us on special teams. We've got (Karan) Higdon and (Damarea) Crockett battling it out and we've got (Cullen) Gillaspia, so we'll see what happens. Anything can happen.”

With cuts ramping up ahead of Week 1, the Texans appear not be taking a slow approach concerning the position. Though they may be able to nab a veteran after his release, it's clear Houston is looking for an answer to go alongside Johnson, and are apparently willing to trade for it.
