Indianapolis Colts rookie cornerback Rock Ya-Sin was taken high in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and head coach Frank Reich can see the development unfolding.

“He understands the techniques that we are asking him to play,” Reich told Stephen Holder of TheAthletic.com. “You can see him progressing.”

Ya-Sin was the third cornerback taken in the draft and played his college football at Temple, where he tallied 12 passes defensed and two interceptions in 2018.

The 23-year-old Ya-Sin joins a Colts defense that exceeded expectations in 2018, with then-rookie linebacker Darius Leonard leading the team with 111 tackled and seven sacks.

The Colts' secondary also played past expectations with the help of defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who was a head coaching candidate but decided to stay put at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Drafting Ya-Sin adds to a defense that boasts Leonard, Pierre Desir, Malik Hooker, Justin Houston, and Margus Hunt.

Indianapolis finished the 2018 season with a 10-6 record and ended up making their way to the divisional round of the playoffs before losing to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Colts have a -175 odds to make the playoffs in 2019, above their opponents in the AFC South.

The additions of Ya-Sin and free agent signings like Devin Funchess could put the Colts over the top in the AFC.
