Baker Mayfield's time with the Cleveland Browns is essentially over after they traded for Deshaun Watson on Friday. Mayfield already made it clear earlier this week that he wanted out of Cleveland and some reports indicated he is interested in the Indianapolis Colts, who just moved on from Carson Wentz after one season.

Well, according to Ian Rapoport, the Colts are indeed emerging as a prime landing spot for the disgruntled quarterback:

It's no secret Indianapolis needs a signal-caller ASAP and Mayfield could be the answer. While he is coming off an underwhelming season, the former Oklahoma standout has been a serviceable QB for most of his career. Plus, a fresh start could do wonders for him.

The Colts just missed the playoffs in 2021 after collapsing in Week 17 against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. Wentz wasn't exactly awful for the team, but they clearly thought he wasn't the answer after trading him to Washington. Mayfield underwent labrum surgery this offseason and should be ready to go by training camp, wherever that may be.

To be honest, it's not exactly surprising he wants to play for the Colts. It's a chance to revive his career and take them to the postseason. And with a superstar running back in Jonathan Taylor as well, the missing piece is a reliable QB. Baker Mayfield has the potential to be just that.
