Through the first two weeks of the preseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars have dealt with some minor injuries to a couple of their key players.
Rookie running back Leonard Fournette is currently recovering from a foot injury while veteran wide receiver Marqise Lee is dealing with an ankle injury. According to Ryan O’Halloran of Jacksonville.com, the duo has voiced that they will be ready to go for the season opener against the Houston Texans on September 10th.
Asked about being ready for Week 1, Fournette said: “I’m very confident. That’s nothing to worry about.”
As for facing the Texans, Lee said: “I’m pretty confident I’ll be fine. I can’t make a move without the trainers and coaches, but I think I’ll be fine by Game 1. I’m doing everything possible [to be ready] by Game 1. That’s what I can control and that’s what I’m going to do.”
Fournette revealed that the injury is to the same leg that he dealt with the high ankle sprain that he suffered last year at LSU, which forced him to miss six games. Meanwhile, Lee's brief NFL career has been greatly impacted by leg injuries.
The Jaguars have major plans for each player to take up significant roles in the offense this upcoming season. Fournette has an opportunity to take up the starting running back spot, while Lee will assume a large role in the passing game. He is coming off a career-best campaign, where he had career highs with 63 catches for 851 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
With just over two weeks until the beginning of the season, hopefully there is enough time for both players to recover fully from their respective ailments and be ready to go.
