Running back Leonard Fournette was shown the exit signs after the Jacksonville Jaguars recently waived him. The front office reportedly couldn't find any trade partners to take on the third-year running back.
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone bared the reason for Fournette's release via ESPN NFL Nation reporter Michael DiRocco on Twitter:
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone says Leonard Fournette's release is all about what he's seen on field during camp — not locker room issues. He feels like group of backs behind Fournette can give team better chance to win. Doing it now gives them chance to get rotation figured out.

Doug Marrone chose to roll with the rest of his young running back group instead which consists of 2019 fifth-round pick Ryquell Armstead, and undrafted sophomore Devine Ozigbo. Newly-acquired offensive coordinator Jay Gruden also brought in his former ball-carrier in Chris Thompson dating back from their days together in Washington.

Despite issues surrounding his fit with the team, his contribution cannot be questioned. He racked up a total of 2,631 rushing yards on 134 receptions, and 17 rushing touchdowns scored through three seasons. The spot he vacated will be hard to fill especially with the young rushers remaining at the Jaguars' disposal.
A rapid changing of the guards has also transpired in Jacksonville in recent seasons. Fournette is the last remnant from the Jaguars team that made a valiant stand against the New England Patriots in the 2017 AFC Championship game. The franchise underwent full-rebuilding mode after gradually parting ways with the team's pieces in the following seasons. The Jaguars have not made it back to the postseason picture after the 2017 NFL Playoffs.
A breath of fresh air could possibly make all the difference for the former LSU Tiger to be able to take his game to new heights, this time with a new team.
