Nick Foles had a rough 2019 campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, a year afterwards he signed a massive contract to be the starting quarterback for the Jaguars; at the same time, the AFC South club selected Washington State product Gardner Minshew in the sixth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Minshew, 23, wasn't expected to start any games for the Jaguars in his true freshman season in the NFL, but a Week 1 shoulder injury to Foles but a huge dent in Jacksonville's plans this past season following the four-year, $88 million deal the ex-Super Bowl MVP signed.

Could the Jaguars then trade Foles in this offseason after Minshew played relatively well in his rookie season?

Per Jason La Canfora in CBS Sports:

“He has strong ties to the coach and he's cheaper than Rivers. He was with (GM Chris) Ballard in KC. The Bears have some interest too, and (coach Matt Nagy) likes him, too. I think he gets traded.”

Minshew ended up starting in 12 games during his first professional season, going 6-6 for the Jaguars, who saw plenty of changes in-season, including shipping off secondary staple Jalen Ramsey. It was a challenging season all around for Jacksonville and its quarterback position, but perhaps parting ways with Foles is best should the franchise have strong confidence in rising sophomore gunslinger Gardner Minshew.

Foles, 31, threw for 736 yards with a 65.8 completion percentage, connecting on three touchdowns and two picks in just four games with the Jaguars. According to La Canfora, Foles could be on his way out via trade to the Chicago Bears, who have issues with third-year QB Mitchell Trubisky, or the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, who could use a backup behind Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.
