Could Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Yannick Ngakoue be looking for a new contract? It seems that way.
Ngakoue has joined cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Telvin Smith as Jaguars players that are absent from offseason workouts, but the difference with Ngakoue is that he actually attended for the first few days before leaving, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
This could certainly have something to do with the fact that Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman and Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark both landed massive deals recently.
Ngakoue is entering the final year of his current contract and is scheduled to make $2 million in 2019, but given how productive he has been since entering the league in 2016, you can see why he may want to hold out for an extension.
The 24-year-old is coming off of a solid 2018 campaign in which he racked up 28 tackles and 9.5 sacks in what was an overall disappointing year for the Jaguars otherwise.
Article Continues BelowNgakoue, who played his collegiate football at the University of Maryland, was originally selected by Jacksonville in the third round (69th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
He had an impressive rookie campaign, finishing with 23 tackles, eight sacks and four forced fumbles. Then, the following year, Ngakoue made the Pro Bowl after racking up 30 tackles, 12 sacks, six forced fumbles, a couple of fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.
The Washington, D.C. native has also never missed a game.
The Jaguars won just five games this past season, one year after making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game.
