It's no secret that the New York Jets are in search of top-tier players to complete their roster. They made an enticing $90 million offer to make Kirk Cousins their franchise quarterback this offseason, but it didn't work out. However, the Jets are still in pursuit of an elite pass-rusher to lead their defense. The Jets were very interested in acquiring Khalil Mack from the Oakland Raiders in particular.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, league sources say that the Raiders held an open auction to give teams a chance to make their best offer for Mack.

The bidding closed once the Bears promised two first-round picks for the Pro-Bowler. The Jets were reportedly ready to match that offer, but they were not given a chance. The Raiders believed that the first-round picks from the Bears would be higher up. Moving Mack to the NFC was also a factor in their decision to trade him to the Bears.

“They are going to leave no stone unturned,” is how one source familiar with their thinking described the process.

However, the Jets will not give up on their search. Ndamukong Suh, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Ezekiel Ansah are Pro Bowl defensive linemen that will be available in 2019. The Jets will remain among the leaders in cap space and the years to come, so they should be able to make some strong offers in the near future.

Their primary focus is on finding an edge rusher, but they'll take the best they can get.
