The Las Vegas Raiders were in a close game on Thursday Night Football against the Denver Broncos, but ended up losing 10-7. They also suffered an injury during the game, as Jackson Powers-Johnson went down, and he could miss a large portion of the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
“Raiders OL Jackson Powers‑Johnson suffered an ankle injury that will land him on Injured Reserve and could potentially end his season, sources say. This was expected, as coach Pete Carroll said post-game he’ll be ‘out awhile.' Still, a big blow to the group,” Rapoport wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Powers-Johnson was injured at the beginning of the second quarter after rolling his ankle as Geno Smith was sacked. He stayed on the ground for some time before he was helped off the field by the trainers. Powers-Johnson then went to the medical tent and then to the locker room.
The injury continues the trend of the starting offensive line not being healthy, as Kolton Miller is already on injured reserve because of his ankle. Dylan Parham was hurt in the second quarter of the game against the Broncos after suffering a high ankle sprain.
That has led to Smith being pressured more than usual, and he also suffered an injury in the game. Kenny Pickett came in, but Smith was able to come back in and finish the game. The Raiders might need to sign some depth on the offensive line going forward so they can keep Smith fresh for the rest of the season.
In general, it has not been the best year for the Raiders, especially on offense. It's been mostly due to some injuries to key players such as tight end Brock Bowers, but they also haven't had much consistency with who they've had on the field this season.
