It has been nearly a couple of weeks since the Oakland Raiders made the move to trade All-Pro defensive end Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears, which has given head coach Jon Gruden a chance to further assess the move.
According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Gruden has voiced that he has no regrets with the decision to move Mack to the Bears..
“No, it doesn’t make me regret making the decision,” Gruden said. “We made the trade. We made the trade. There’s going to be hindsight and all that stuff. We would have loved to have had him here but he’s not here. I’m not going to rehash this.”
Gruden also voiced that he hopes this move was the right choice for the Raiders' long-term future as it could have a major impact on how things shape up down the road for the franchise. In the meantime, it hasn't looked well for the Raiders have dropped their first two games in disappointing fashion that has quickly put them in a hole to begin the year. Within that, Oaklands hasn't gotten much of a pass-rush presence tallying just two sacks, which is the second-lowest amount in the league.
Meanwhile, Mack was tremendous in his first game with the Bears where he was a huge factor in limited work that saw him have a sack, a fumble, fumble recovery, and an interception returned for a touchdown. He has a chance to build on that in extended play on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks.
There has been a notable lack of presence along the defensive line that has put much more pressure on their secondary that has struggled to defend the pass effectively. The defense held their own through most of the game against the Denver Broncos but had their issues in the fourth quarter giving up 10 points that proved to be the difference in the contest. Ultimately, one time will tell how this move will impact the Raiders long-term future.
