For only the second time in the franchise's history, the Oakland Raiders will not be represented at the NFL's Pro Bowl event in January.
It hasn't exactly been an ideal first season for Jon Gruden since his return to the franchise, with the Raiders struggling to a 3-11 record while dealing with plenty of unknowns off the filed when it comes to where they will play next season.
So, perhaps we shouldn't be all that surprising that Oakland would fail to land a player in the Pro Bowl due to the problems throughout the season.
It seemed that tight end Jared Cook would be the most likely choice, but that didn't happen, which left the Raiders without a player on the Pro Bowl team.
And that's not something that happened very often, as noted by ESPN's Paul Guiterrez:
Article Continues BelowIn fact, for the first time since 2003 and for just the second time in franchise history, the Raiders had no players selected for the Pro Bowl. Cook, Hudson and left guard Kelechi Osemele were named as alternates for the AFC squad.
This is another unfortunate development for the Raiders this season, and things continue to be somewhat of a mess with the franchise about to enter a very important offseason.
But before Gruden and company get there, they must prepare for two tough games to round out the regular season.
Oakland will host the Denver Broncos next week on Monday Night Football before hitting the road to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17.
