According to a team announcement, the Oakland Raiders signed veteran defensive tackle Ethan Westbrooks on Tuesday. While it's not the biggest signing of the offseason for them, Westbrooks could easily be a solid contributor on the team.

Many will look at his numbers from last season and be unimpressed. Westbrooks recorded just eight tackles and one sack for the Los Angeles Rams. However, you need to look at the team. The Rams had a lot of talent on their defensive line last year and Westbrooks got buried on the depth chart.

He was actually a strong contributor the years prior despite still not having a huge role. In 2015, Westbrooks had 14 tackles and two sacks in 13 games. Then, he recorded two more sacks and 24 tackles (six for loss) in 2016. Finally, in 2017 Westbrooks racked up 23 tackles and a career-best four sacks.

Clearly, when given a big enough role Westbrooks can be a great addition to a defensive line. He's not going to be the standout performer and shouldn't be the main attraction, but he's more than capable as a player on the line.

Westbrooks will have to fight for a role with the Raiders, but don't be surprised if he carves out a nice one. He's a solid veteran presence that's spent some time on a winning team around some fantastic players.

I mean seriously – he's played under Michael Brockers, Ndamukong Suh, Robert Quinn, Chris Long ,and Aaron Donald. Those are some elite names that helped teach him the ropes.

Now, Ethan Westbrooks gets to bring what he's learned over to the Oakland Raiders. Maybe he can pass on some of that knowledge there, and make some big plays while doing so.
