Josh McDaniels has not been a head coach in the NFL since he was hired and then fired as head coach of the Denver Broncos over a decade ago. Since then, he had a short stint with the (then) St. Louis Rams followed up with a decade of superb offensive coordinating with the New England Patriots. Teams routinely go to the Patriots well in search of coaches so it is not that surprising then, when word came out today, via ESPN's Adam Schefter, that the Las Vegas Raiders are seriously considering McDaniels for their head coaching vacancy. Although word came out earlier today that McDaniels was not interested in the job, things have quickly turned.

What comes as s bit of a surprise, though, is that the Raiders want to make it a package deal coming from New England. Not only is Las Vegas interviewing McDaniels, but they have visions of pairing him with Patriots personnel executive, Dave Ziegler. That would be two Bill Belichick disciples going over to the same team but staying in the same conference as their mentor.

Bill O'Brien from the University of Alabama is rumored to be the Patriots' next offensive coordinator.

Perhaps what makes this job the most appealing one out there for McDaniels is the chance to compete with Denver two times a year. There is certainly some bad blood between the coach and the franchise that fired him after just 1.5 seasons. Most believe that McDaniels was never given a fair shake in Denver and if he feels the same way, this job sticks out like a sore thumb for the scorn former Broncos head coach.
