Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr had to pull out all the stops on their Sunday night match against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 29-year old came pretty close to ruining the defending champs' visit with a few clutch plays that help his team grab the lead in key stretches of the evening. Carr dropped interesting references in some of his calls on the night, showing a bit of creativity on his play-calling.
In the second quarter with the game tied at 14, Carr was heard screaming âJames Hardenâ on a hand-off play with Devontae Booker which helped the Raiders gain a few yards. This snap was part of Raiders drive which helped them grab the lead heading into halftime.

Carr dropped another NBA reference in the fourth quarter when the Raiders were trying to claw their way back as he was heard calling âChris Mullinâ on another hand-off play.

Former LB Emmanuel Acho had an interesting analysis on all the name-dropping from Carr. Per the former NFL athlete, it seems as though Carr was referring to famous left-handed players when he wanted to signal his team to run left. Harden is one of the best lefties in the NBA right now and the left-handed Mullin also had himself a Hall of Fame career. Acho also mentioned in the same tweet that Carr has been known to call out other right-handed NBA stars when he wants his team to run to the right.
I love being able to hear the QBâs talk without a crowd.
Derek Carr checks, âJames hardenâ (left handed), #Raiders run left.
âChris Mullinâ (left handed) Raiders run left.
When Derek Carr has checked to right handed NBA players. Raiders run right. #SNF

The pandemic has forced teams to play in virtually empty stadiums during matches and though this has been a huge blow for NFL fans everywhere, the quiet arenas have given us all a unique experience of being able to hear QBs and other members of the teams express themselves in the grid iron.
