The Detroit Lions may have almost an entirely new coaching staff outside of offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, but their front office is still in place, including general manager Bob Quinn. On Friday, the franchise made it clear that his and new head coach Matt Patricia's futures are bound together.

Quinn received an extension that runs parallel to Patricia's contract, meaning the two men have five-year deals with Detroit running through the 2022 season. Jim Caldwell was already the head coach when the Lions brought Quinn in, so Patricia is his first hire for the position.

Quinn has held the role since the 2016 season after spending 16 seasons with the New England Patriots as a player personnel assistant, pro scout, regional scout, national scout, assistant director of pro personnel, and finally director of pro scouting.

In a joint statement released by the Lions, Quinn expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and his vision alongside Patricia:

“Thank you to Mrs. Ford, her family, and Rod Wood for their continued support and belief in my ability to lead this football team. My goals and vision remain unchanged and I will continue to work diligently at improving this team and every facet of the football operation. Coach Patricia and I will always work in close concert on any and all football-related matters. That process is underway as our coaching and player personnel staffs are collectively preparing for the roster building phase of the off-season.”

After reaching the playoffs with a 9-7 record in 2016, the Lions again went 9-7 this season, but they fell short of a wild card berth. With quarterback Matthew Stafford in his prime, the organization is hoping to make a leap past mediocrity over the next few seasons with Patricia at the helm and Quinn pushing the buttons on the roster.
