The Detroit Lions’ search for a new starting running back seems to be finally over. This is following a report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network that says LeGarrette Blount and the Lions have agreed to a one-year contract Friday.
The #Lions are signing FA RB LeGarrette Blount to a 1-year deal worth $4.5M, source said. He’s back with Matt Patricia, as the New England ties are strong.
LeGarrette Blount has won a Super Bowl in each of the last two seasons. He was with the New England Patriots when the team made a sensational and historic come-from-behind win in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons. Then just last February, Blount kissed the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the third time so far in his career, when the Philadelphia Eagles took down Tom Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.

A season before, he had his second 1000-yard campaign, when he rushed for 1,161 yards and 18 rushing scores on 299 carries.
Blount is not going to be a long-term answer for one of the Lions’ most persistent problems over the past few seasons, but he gives the team capable short-yard rusher. The Lions finished 2017 last in the NFL with a pathetic output of 76.3 rushing yards per game to go with only 10 rushing touchdowns. Detroit was also last in the NFL in third-down conversions with 27 percent success rate in that area.
