Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa is finally expected to make his season debut against the Denver Broncos, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

After going through a full week of work, after being a part of the Chargers’ regular defensive rotation during practice, Joey Bosa is expected to make his 2018 season debut against the Broncos on Sunday, per source. “I’d be shocked if he doesn’t,” source said.

Bosa has missed the Chargers’ first nine games of the season due to a foot injury he suffered before Week 1. He finally returned to practice earlier this week, although he was still listed as questionable on the injury report.

The Chargers haven’t exactly missed Bosa this season. Despite being without their top pass rusher, the Chargers have put together a 7-2 record to remain second behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

They are also tied for 10th in sacks despite Bosa’s absence. Melvin Ingram leads the team with 5.5, but they’ve also gotten contributions from rookie defensive end Isaac Rochell (4.5) and even rookie safety Derwin James (3.5).

Bosa’s return should be a huge boost for the Chargers’ defense which is giving up just 20.7 points per game, good for eighth in the league. The third-year defensive end has racked up 23 sacks over his first two seasons in the league.

It might take some time for Bosa to get back up to speed after a long layoff. But he still has a good deal of time to get himself ready for the stretch run of the season as the Chargers look to solidify their place in the playoffs.
