Alex Spanos achieved a lifelong dream when he purchased the Los Angeles Chargers in 1984, but unfortunately, he lost his life earlier today at the age of 95. Spanos bought the then-San Diego Chargers as a huge football fan. He's was the face of the franchise for decades, and takes pride in running a top flight organization. According to Chargers.com, one of his greatest memories was watching the Chargers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers to advance to Super Bowl XXIX (29) back in 1995. The Chargers ultimately lost, but he held this accomplishment close to his heart. Spanos' family released this statement on the team's official website, honoring his life.

While he was a successful business man, Spanos was also known for his dedication to his family. He will leave behind 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. However, he will also leave behind an example for how an NFL franchise should be run.
The NFL lost one of it's greatest leaders and pioneers. The team will move forward following the road map he laid down for those after him.
